EANA condemns threats against Tanjug and its staff

The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) strongly condemns the threats and intimidation directed at our member, the Serbian news agency Tanjug, and its staff following the parliamentary elections of 25 October 2026.

Following the election-night reporting, Tanjug informed EANA that its staff and management had received serious threats. EANA considers threats and intimidation against journalists unacceptable, irrespective of any disagreement over their editorial decisions.

EANA expresses its solidarity with the journalists at Tanjug and calls on the Serbian authorities to investigate these threats promptly and thoroughly. We also call on political actors on all sides to clearly reject the intimidation of media workers and to foster a calm public debate.

A free and pluralistic media landscape depends on people being able to report without fear, including when their reporting is disputed.
