EANA: Tribute to Photojournalists on World Photography Day

On World Photography Day, the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) pays tribute to the photojournalists whose images bring truth, clarity, and humanity to the stories that shape our world. Their work transcends language and borders, offering a powerful testimony to events as they unfold.

At a time when visual information is often manipulated or misused, the commitment to accuracy and integrity shown by professional news photographers is more vital than ever. EANA reaffirms its support for all photojournalists working under challenging conditions, and celebrates their essential role in keeping the public informed through images that endure in history.

Beyond their professional mission, we also recognize the human side of photography: the courage to be present where history happens, the empathy required to capture moments of both hardship and hope, and the passion to share stories through a lens. Today, we honor not just the product of their work, but especially the people behind the camera who help us see the world more clearly.

“On World Photography Day, I want to draw attention to the work of photojournalists everywhere. Their work carries truth across borders, showing the good and the bad to the world. Their images, often captured in during crisis times and in extremely dangerous circumstances, show what’s in front of the lens, and, more often than not, the public can’t realize the lengths to which professionals have to go for capturing certain images. More importantly, while documenting history, press photographers remind us of our shared humanity. I have worked with many fantastic photographers during my professional career, and I’m happy to extend my best wishes to them on this day. I urge everyone - the public and their journalist colleagues - to celebrate their courage, integrity, and the stories they tell through a single frame”, said Alexandru Giboi, secretary general of EANA.
